Linux Setup and Operation 3-9
DUPLEX LAN CONFIGURATION
NEC Express5800/ft series uses Bonding for duplex of 1000 BASE LAN cards controlled by the igb
driver and builds them as bond*(*=0,1,2…) device.
Functional overview
For duplicating a LAN, the following load balancing mode for bonding is used. The default setting
of bonding is active-backup(mode=1).
Bonding mode
mode
Function
balance-rr
(*)
0
A load balancing is based on sequential turn on
available interface.
active-backup
1
There is an interface of multiple LAN controllers in
this mode. This mode can continue an operation by
changing into the backup controller even if the LAN
controller of primary fails.
Balance-xor
(*)
2
A load balancing is based on transmission hash policy
used MAC address of transmission source and
destination.
Balance-tlb
5
A load balancing is based on the transmission speed
of each interface on transmission.
This mode doesn’t need the special support of switch.
* When you use the bonding mode of 0 or 2, you need to use 802.3 mode in the setting of switch. Unless you
don’t do this setting, you may come across a failure of module or disconnection of network in changing
machine. Confirm that there is a mode of 802.3 on the switch in advance.
Operable network configuration
For NEC Express5800/ft series, network interface names are based on the naming convention as
described in the table below. Network duplication is achieved by pairing network interfaces of PCI
slots in CPU/IO module 0 and network interfaces in the same PCI slots in CPU/IO module 1.

column is slot numbers allocated by vndctl described later. The
slot numbers are allocated one-to-one to each interface pair.
