Measuring air gap

•

Place the tone wheel with the mill

toothing part from the opposite side to

the one of the timing sensor.

•

Check with a feeler gauge inserted be-

tween the ends of the timing sensor

and the surface of the teeth of the tone

wheel, that the air gap is between 0.7

and 0.9 mm (0.027-0.035 in).

For the measuring of the air gap with the engine

mounted, proceed as follows:

•

With a calibre measure the distance

between the stop on the crankcase (1)

and the surface of the tooth on the fly-

wheel (2).

•

Measure the distance between the end

(3) of the sensor and its stop plate (4).

The difference between the two distan-

ces measured gives the real air gap.

•

If necessary, intervene shimming the

stop of the sensor.

NOTE

THE OPERATIONS DESCRIBED BELOW REFER TO ONE HEAD REMOVING ONLY BUT APPLY
TO BOTH HEADS.

•

Remove the head.

•

Slide off the cylinder from the stud bolts, paying attention not to damage the piston.
