If the engine does not brake the
vehicle sufficiently w hile driving on
a downgrade, the speed you set on
the cruise control m ay be e xceed­
ed. In this case the follow ing will
assist in m aintaining the set cruise
controlled speed:
V ehicles with
autom atic transm ission:
Downshift occurs (max. to 3rd
gear) to maintain the set cruise
controlled speed by using the
engine’s braking power.
As soon as the grade eases, the
transm ission shifts up again
dependent on the selector lever
position.
Vehicles with
m anual transm ission:
The set cruise controlled speed is
switched o ff w hen declutching
exceeds four seconds during
dow nshifting a gear.
Moving selector lever to position
“ N” sw itches the cruise control off.
Note:
N evertheless, in som e cases you
m ay have to step on the brake
pedal to slow down. In this case
the cruise control is sw itched off.
Use the lever to resume the
previously set speed.
Caution!
O nly use the cruise control if
the traffic and w eath er co n ­
ditions m ake it ad visab le to
travel at a steady speed.
• The use of cruise control
can be d angerous on w in d ­
ing roads or in heavy traffic
because conditions do not
allow safe driving at a
steady speed.
• T h e use of cruise control
can be dangerous on slip­
pery roads. Rapid changes
in tire adhesion can result
in w heel spin and loss of
control.
The “R esu m e” function should
only be operated if the driver
is fully aw are of the previously
set speed and w ishes to re­
sum e this particular preset
speed.
