Steering Lock
0 The key can be w ithdraw n in
this position only. The steering
is locked with the key removed
from the steering lock. If neces­
sary, move steering wheel
slightly to allow the locking
m echanism to engage.
In vehicles equipped with auto­
m atic transm ission, the key can
be removed only with your foot
off the brake pedal and the s e ­
lector lever in position “P”. After
rem oving the key or with the key
in steering lock position 0, the
selector lever is locked in
position “ P”.

wheel slightly to allow the key
to be turned clockw ise to
position 1.)

W arning!
W hen leaving the vehicle
alw ays rem ove the key from
the steering lock, and lock the
vehicle. Do not leave children
unattended in the vehicle, or
with access to an unlocked
vehicle. U nsupervised use of
vehicle equipm ent may cause
serious personal injury.
Notes:
A w arning sounds when the
driver’s door is opened with the
key in steering lock position 1 or 0.
With the engine at idle speed, the
charging rate of the alternator
(output) is limited.
It is therefore recom m ended to
turn off unnecessary electrical
consum ers while driving in
stop-and-go traffic. This precaution
helps to avoid draining of the
battery.
Unnecessary strain on the battery
and charging system may be
m inimized by turning off the
follow ing pow er consum ers, for
exam ple: Heated seats, rear
w indow defroster.
Caution!
To prevent accelerated battery
discharge and a possible dead
battery, alw ays rem ove the key
from the steering lock. Do not
leave the key in steering lock
position 0.
