Children 12 years old and
under m ust never ride in
this vehicle, except in a
M ercedes-B enz authorized
BabySm art™ com patible child
seat, which operates with the
B abyS m art™ system installed
in the vehicle to deactivate the
passenger side fro nt airbag
w hen it is properly installed.
O therw ise they will be struck
by the airbag when it inflates in
a crash. If this happens,
serious or fatal injury will
result.
Infants and sm all children
m ust be seated in an appro­
priate infant or child restraint
system , w hich is properly
secured with the vehicle’s seat
belt, fully in accordance with
the child seat m anufacturer’s
instructions.
A child’s risk of serious or
fatal injuries is significantly
increased if the child restraints
are not properly secured in the
vehicle and the child is not

restraint.
A djust the p assenger seat as
far as possible rearw ard from
the dashboard when the seat is
occupied.
B abySm art™ Airbag
D eactivation System
Special child seats, designed
for use with the M ercedes-Benz
system and available at any
authorized M ercedes-Benz dealer
are required for use with the
BabySm art™ airbag deactivation
system.
W ith the special child seat properly
installed, the passenger side front
airbag will not deploy. The E 3
indicator lam p located on the
center console will be illum inated,
except with key removed or in
steering lock position 0. The
system does not deactivate the
door m ounted side im pact airbag.

The BabySm art™ Airbag
D eactivation System will ONLY
w ork w ith a special child seat
designed to operate with it. It
will not w ork with child seats
w hich are not B abySm art™
com patible.
Never place anything between
seat cushion and child seat
(e.g. pillow), since it reduces
the effectiveness of the
deactivation system .
Follow the m an ufactu rer’s
instructions for installation of
special child seats.
The p assenger side front
a irbag w ill not deploy only if
t h e B 3 indicator lam p rem ains
illum inated.
Please be sure to check the
indicator every tim e you use
the special system child seat.
Should the light go out while
the restraint is installed, please
check installation. If the light
rem ains out, do not use the
BabySm art™ restraint to trans­
port children on the passenger
seat until the system has been
repaired.
