W inter Driving
Have your vehicle winterized at
your authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer before the onset of winter.
• C hange the engine oil if the
engine contains an oil which
is not approved for w inter
operation. For viscosity
(SAE/CCM C class) and filling
quantity, see Capacities: Fuels,
Coolants, Lubricants etc. in
Index.
• Check engine coolant
anticorrosion/antifreeze
concentration.
• Additive for the w indshield
w asher and headlam p cleaning
system: Add MB Concentrate
“S” to a premixed w indshield
w asher solvent/antifreeze which
is form ulated for below freezing
tem peratures (see Index).
• Test battery: Battery capacity
drops with decreasing am bient
tem perature. A well charged
battery helps to ensure that the
engine can be started, even at
low am bient tem peratures.
• Tires: W e recom m end M+S
rated radial-ply tires on all four
w heels for the w inter season.
O bserve perm issible m axim um
speed for M+S rated radial-ply
tires and the legal speed limit.
Note:
In w inter operation, the m axim um
effectiveness of the Antilock Brake
System (ABS) o r Acceleration Slip
Regulation (ASR) can only be
achieved with M+S rated radial-ply
tires and/or snow chains recom ­
mended by M ercedes-Benz. Snow
chains m axim ize perform ance.
Snow C hains
Use only snow chains that are
tested and recom m ended by
M ercedes-Benz. Y our authorized
M ercedes-Benz dealer will be glad
to advise you on this subject.
Chains should only be used on the
rear wheels. Follow the m anu­
facturer’s m ounting instructions.
Snow chains should only be driven
on snow covered roads at speeds
not to exceed 30 mph (50 km/h).
Rem ove chains as soon as pos­
sible when driving on roads w ithout
snow.

Im portant!
Use of snow chains is not perm is­
sible with tire size 225/50 R 16,
with the collapsible spare tire, or
with tire sizes 225/45 ZR 17 and
245/40 ZR 17 (Sport Package).
