Tires should be replaced in sets.
Rims and tires m ust be of the
correct size and type. For
dim ensions, see “Technical Data".
We recommend that you break
in new tires for approx. 60 miles
(100 km) at m oderate speed.
It is im perative that the wheel
m ounting bolts be fastened to
a tightening torque of 80 ft.lb.,
(110 Nm) w henever w heels are
mounted.
For rim and tire specifications, refer
to “Technical Data” .
Tire Replacement
W orn, old tires can cause
accidents. If the tire tread is
badly w orn, or if the tires have
sustained dam age, replace
them .
W hen replacing rims, use only
genuine M ercedes-B enz wheel
bolts specified for the particu­
lar rim type. Failure to do so
can result in the bolts loosen­
ing and possibly an accident.
Warning!
Rotating W heels
W heel rotation applies only when
w inter tires are m ounted on all four
wheels.
The w heels can be rotated
according to the degree of tire
w ear while retaining the same
direction of travel.
Rotating, however, should be
carried out at the scheduled
service intervals, before the
characteristic tire w ear pattern
(shoulder w ear on front w heels and
tread center w ear on rear wheels)
becom es visible, as otherw ise the
driving properties deteriorate.
U nidirectional tires m ust always
be m ounted with arrow on tire
sidewall pointing in direction of
vehicle forw ard m ovem ent.
Notes:
Thoroughly clean the inner side of
the w heels any tim e you rotate the
w heels or wash the vehicle
underside.
The use o f retread tires is not
recom m ended. Retread tires may
adversely affect the handling
characteristics and safety of the
vehicle.
Dented or bent rims can cause tire
pressure loss and dam age to the
tire beads. For this reason, check
rims for dam age at regular inter­
vals. The rim flanges m ust be
checked for w ear before a tire is
m ounted. R em ove burrs, if any.
C heck and ensure proper tire
inflation pressure after rotating the
