Reassembly
2. Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the
outside diameter of the oil seal.
3. Install the oil seal into the crankcase using a seal
driver. Make sure the oil seal is installed straight
and true in the bore and that the tool bottoms
against the crankcase. See Figures 10-2 and 10-3.

Install Flywheel End Main Bearing
If the flywheel end main bearing was removed in
servicing, install a new bearing using an arbor press
and driver.
1. Make sure the crankcase bore for the main
bearing is clean, dry and free of nicks or burrs.
2. Press the flywheel side main bearing in place
with the notch oriented in the 12 o’clock position
using an arbor press and driver. See Figure 10-5.
Make sure the bearing is fully seated against the
flange and the oil feed hole is open in the
crankcase. See Figure 10-6.
3. Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the inner
surface of the main bearing.

Install Lifter Feed Chamber Gaskets and
Cover
1. Install the lifter feed chamber gasket, followed by
the lifter feed cover over the lifter feed chamber. If
used, position the breather baffle on top of the
parts with the winged offset down.
2. Install the three screws. Make sure all the parts
are properly aligned. Torque the screws to
6.2
N·m (55 in. lb.)
into new holes, or
4.0 N·m
(35 in. lb.)
, into used holes. See Figure 10-4.
