OVERVIEW OF THE RS-BA1
❍
The RS-BA1 consists of the Remote Utility, used to configure a remote control system, and the Remote Control-
ler, used to send CI-V commands to a radio to remotely operate it.
❍
With the RS-BA1, you can configure a remote control system through the Internet, or a LAN.
❍
The RS-BA1 provides highly qualified audio communication between your PC and an Icom amateur radio
through a USB port (Type B/Mini-B) or LAN port*.
•
You can also control Icom radios with an RS-232C interface.
* If you use the IC-7700, firmware version 2.00 or later installed, is required.
If you use the IC-7800, firmware version 3.00 or later installed, is required.
About the remote control system
An RS-BA1 remote control system basically consists of following three components:
• Base station (Radio and Server)
• Network (Internet or LAN)
• Remote station (PC)
The Remote station controls the Base station radio through the network (internet or LAN).
To control the Base station radio, the radio should be connected to the network through a PC or directly.
Most Icom radios need a PC, and use the PC as the Server to exchange CI-V commands, control command and
audio with the Remote station through either the internet or LAN. (Fig. 1)
The radio has a built-in Network function that can be directly connected to the network. With this function, a Base
station PC is not necessary. (Fig. 2)
The radio is remotely controlled by the Remote station PC using the Remote Controller.
See the “5. REMOTE CONTROLLER’S BASIC OPERATION” section for more details. (p. 62)
