Help is available by pressing F1, and the instructions to change configuration are
listed at the bottom of the screen.
Notes® on the use of RAID:
RAID can be configured on either the internal or external SCSI port but not
both at the same time. If one is configured and there are disks on the other
port, they are only available in a non-redundant configuration. If the external
port is used, additional RAID options are available, but will require ServeRAID
to configure them. We recommend using the LSI RAID Controller on the 2
internal disk and configure a RAID-1 array. If RAID is required on an external
disk then install a ServeRAID card and configure these as required.
After confirming the mirror creation, the data on the secondary disk is lost.
The secondary disk will be overwritten by the content of the primary disk
whose content stays intact.
The initial mirror synchronization can take up to several hours. The process
itself runs in the background. You can begin the operating system installation
at any time, even while the synchronization is running.
During the synchronization, the server may be restarted or turned off as
needed. If not finished, the procedure will continue after restarting without
user intervention.
Booting from ServeRAID-attached drives is supported, using one of the
supported adapters. See “ServeRAID with external storage enclosures” on
page 79 for a list of supported devices.
ServeRAID mini-configuration utility
If a ServeRAID adapter is installed (4Mx or 6M), it will dynamically load a driver
within the EFI environment. This can then be selected from the list of drivers.
This loads the ServeRAID mini-configuration utility that allows you to view or
amend some of the card’s configuration parameters. The mini-configuration utility
is not as comprehensive (or intuitive) as ServeRAID Manager and does not let
you configure a RAID-1 array from scratch. ServeRAID is the recommended
program for initial setup and configuration.
The use of the mini-configuration utility is as follows.
From the Driver Configuration menu (Figure 4-8 on page 104) select Adaptec
RAID Driver. The following screen is displayed.
