Step 1
Read the safety information and “Installation guidelines.
Step 2
Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external
cables as necessary to replace the device.
Step 3
Remove the top cover (see “Removing the top cover”).
Step 4
Pull the hard disk drives and fillers out of the server slightly to disengage them from the SAS
backplane. If you remove the drives from the server, be sure to note the location of each drive
so that you will be able to reinstall them in the correct drive bay.
Step 5
Push the release tab toward the rear of the server to release the assembly; then, pull the
assembly up from the server. At the same time, pull the power and configuration cables (hard
disk drive backplane cable assembly) out of the server.
Step 6
Disconnect the SAS signal cable and SAS power and configuration cables from the
backplane.
Step 7
Push the latches on the backplane carrier outward to disengage and remove the backplane
from the carrier.
