1 .2 .2 Display and Lamps.
The GS8920 printer front panel contains a 6 digit display plus 2 sets of four lamps. One group of
lamps identifies the information in the GS8920’s display window, the other group identifies the
printer’s status and prompts the
operator by identifying that either a
numeral key or a function key is
required.
Lamps are :-
MINUS -
displayed weight is
negative.
ID No -
an ID number is displayed
or required.
AC -
an accumulator number or
code is displayed.
TARE -
a tare register number or
tare weight is displayed.
READY -
the GS8920 is ready for a keyboard input.
WAIT -
the GS8920 is awaiting serial data from the weight indicator. This may remain on
indefinitely if the weight indicator display is never still. Key CLEAR to exit this condition.
FUNCTION -
a function key may be operated.
NUMERAL -
the numeral keypad is active. A number key or CLEAR or ENTER may be keyed.
The 6 digit display will normally contain the number of the active accumulator, the number of the
active tare register, the tare weight or the accumulator’s material code number. An example of a
normal display is
Ac 19
which indicates that accumulator 19 is presently active. Additionally, the
display window is used to display prompt messages. These messages are either momentarily displayed
for 1 second or remain in the display until the operator presses another key. Examples of the types of
displays used as prompts are
——
which appears for 1 second only and indicates an incorrect key has
been operated and
-Prn-
which indicates that the
key has been operated and another key is
now required.
During abnormal operation of either the GS8920 Ticket Printer or the digital weight indicator to which
it is connected, the GS8920 Ticket Printer ceases its normal functions and displays an error message.
Normal operation can then
ONLY
be resumed by correcting the source of the error and then
depressing and releasing the
CLEAR
key to reset the GS8920 Ticket Printer or by momentarily
removing power.
1 .2 .3 Keyboard Controls
The GS8920 Ticket Printer’s power and versatility mean that there are a large number of operations
that can be performed using the GS8920 Ticket Printer’s keyboard.
Special care has been taken to eliminate error by providing a carefully laid out keyboard featuring 15
clearly labelled and colour coded keys. This colour coding, when used in conjunction with the
GS8920’s display window prompts and status lamps makes selection of the correct key for the required
operation a simple reality.
A beeper sounds whenever a key is entered WHILE the GS8920’s “READY” lamp is on. Keys entered
at other times do not operate the beeper and are ignored by the GS8920.
Following is a brief description of each of the GS8920’s keys intended as a reminder of their function.
Later in this manual are more detailed descriptions of each key’s use with flow charts of key sequences
necessary to achieve a particular function as well as printed ticket examples.
For operation during calibration refer “Installation”.
