-Err08-
Error 8.
An attempt to read weight data from the digital weight indicator has been made but 2
seconds has expired and no data has been received. Probable causes include no power to the weight
indicator, a break in the serial cable between the indicator and the printer, a failure of the serial
output card on the indicator, incorrect serial message beginning/end character selection or the serial
input stage of the printer or a change to the digital set up parameters on the indicator affecting the
serial output of the printer.
-Err09-
Error 9.
The key
WEIGH IN
has
been operated. The GS8920 Ticket
Printer cannot find an empty tare
register in which to save the
incoming weight. The
WEIGH IN
process has been stopped. Select
and clear some unused tare registers
then try again.
-Err10-
Error 10.
The GS8920’s printer
mechanism has developed a fault or
the print ribbon is not running
freely. Do not remove the ticket.
Reset the GS8920 Ticket Printer
and try only once more. If the fault
repeats then it may be due to a
jammed ribbon or to a damaged
ribbon. Remove the ticket and the
ribbon and inspect the ribbon for
damage. If the ribbon is torn then
the installation of a new ribbon may
rectify the problem. Verify that the
ribbon runs freely by winding the ribbon on using the thumbwheel on the ribbon cassette. If the
ribbon is not the cause of the fault then service assistance will be required. (
WARNING
- do not
forcefully remove a ticket from the GS8920 printer. The pinch rollers which grip the ticket may be
opened by depressing the lever in the location shown. The lever is identified by an arrow and is
located adjacent to the ticket sensor. )
-Err11-
Error 11.
The voltage supplied to the heads in the GS8920’s printer mechanism is low. Reset the
GS8920 Ticket Printer and try only once more. If the fault repeats then service assistance is
required.
-Err12-
Error 12.
An arithmetic error has occurred. The GS8920 uses very large numbers for all of its
computations to reduce the likelihood of numerical errors. Additions, subtractions and divisions use
12 digit numbers, multiplication uses 24 digit results ! This error will occur when results exceed the
above digit sizes or when an accumulator overflows or on an attempt to divide by zero. The error
can also be induced by using too many decimal places for the average weight or unit price. An
accumulator overflow is very unlikely as EACH of the 50 accumulators can hold 5 million
weighments each of 200,000kg, lbs or whatever unit of measure is used. The most likely cause is
too many decimal places in the average weight or price per unit weight. Enter the GS8920’s digital
setup and reduce the number of decimals in one or both of these and try again. This is NOT a user
adjustment and will require an installation engineer familiar with the GS8920’s digital setup
procedures to carry it out.
1 .4 The GS8920’s Ma jor Day to Day Func tions and How to Use Them.
1 .4 .1 Introduction
The paragraphs that follow describe each of the GS8920’s functions and provide step by step keyboard
operations that are required to use them. Flow chart drawings are provided to clarify the majority of
function key operations. Key descriptions are confined to a single purpose. For example, the
WEIGH
OUT / 4
key is either identified as a
WEIGH OUT
key or as a numeral
4
key. The note in the
drawings “{display at start does not matter}” means that any normal operation display is acceptable.
However, a key sequence cannot be started from an error or prompt message nor can it be started
unless both the
READY
lamp AND the
FUNCTION
lamps are ON.
