General Maintenance
Cleaning the COBE 2991
Routine Cleaning
After every procedure, clean any spills on the surface of the COBE 2991.

Use a water-dampened cloth to clean the main control panel, using care not to
get water into the sockets of the pin-diode program board (if applicable). All
other surfaces, except the red cell detector (RCD), may be cleaned with a mild
detergent that is safe for plastics and a clean cloth or gauze.

Remove all traces of processing/wash solution, dirt, and spills. In case of a cell
product spill, see“Disinfecting As Needed” on page 8-4.

Allow the surfaces to air dry.
Periodic Cleaning
The external portions of the COBE 2991 should be cleaned periodically.

Clean the tubing slot of the RCD with an alcohol swab.

Clean the seal weight’s vertical posts. The contacting surfaces should be clean
and free of debris and nicks. Do not use any lubricant on the seal weight or the
vertical posts.

Clean the outer rim of the centrifuge bowl and centrifuge bowl cover.
Caution:
Do
not use ketones,
alcohol, or esters
for general cleaning of the
COBE 2991, except where
noted.
Caution:
Do
not use a bleach
solution to clean
the red cell detector.
Damage to the lens will
result, which may affect
processing outcomes.
