Except where noted, the following information applies to both LED and pin-diode
program board versions of the COBE 2991.
CENTRIFUGE SPEED (in rpm)
The CENTRIFUGE SPEED control sets the speed of the centrifuge during the
Start/Spin and Supernatant-Out operations. The control is calibrated in rpm
(revolutions per minute) with an available range of 0 to 3000 rpm.
SUPER OUT RATE (in mL/min)
The SUPER OUT RATE control sets the rate at which fluids are expressed from the
cell processing bag during the Supernatant-Out operation. The control is calibrated
in milliliters per minute (mL/min) with an available range of 0 to 450 mL/min.
MINIMUM AGITATE TIME (in seconds)
The MINIMUM AGITATE TIME control sets the minimum duration of the
Agitate/Wash-In operation during processing in the Automatic mode. The control
is calibrated in eight distinct values, from 30 to 100 seconds, in 10-second
increments. The COBE 2991 continues the Agitate/Wash-In operation until the
preselected minimum agitate time has elapsed or the hydraulic pump returns to its
home (starting) position, whichever is longer.
SUPER OUT VOLUME (in mL)
The SUPER OUT VOLUME control sets the volume of supernatant that is
expressed during the Supernatant-Out operation. The control is calibrated in
milliliters (mL) with an available range of 40 to 600 mL. When the volume setting
is reached during the Supernatant-Out operation, the following occurs:
• Automatic mode: the COBE 2991 advances to the Agitate/Wash-In operation,
and the hydraulic pump stops and reverses, returning to its home (starting)
position.

• Manual mode: the hydraulic pump stops, the selected valve remains open, and
the centrifuge continues to spin.
