Table 3-2: COLLECT/SOV Matrix
RCD OFF/ON (COBE 2991s With Collect Valve Only)
The RCD OFF/ON status light works in conjunction with the
COLLECT/SOV button described earlier. It is a visual reminder of the RCD
status.
Note:
During
the early part of
the Supernatant-
Out operation, the RCD is
deactivated. This is to
prevent any residual RBCs in
the clear tubing from being
falsely detected by the RCD.
The RCD is an optical sensor that uses infrared light to detect the presence of red
blood cells (RBCs) in expressed fluids. The RCD is validated and calibrated to
detect RBCs only. Other kinds of cells may or may not be detected by the RCD. In
Automatic mode (with the SOV selected), the presence of RBCs advances the
COBE 2991 from the Supernatant-Out operation to the Agitate/Wash-In
operation or, if a PC stop is programmed, ends the procedure. In Manual mode
(with the SOV selected), the presence of RBCs halts the Supernatant-Out operation
but does not advance the COBE 2991 to the next operation.
EXCESS PRESSURE
The EXCESS PRESSURE status light indicates that the hydraulic system pressure
has exceeded 18 pounds per square inch (psi). The Excess Pressure alarm is activated
only during the early part of the Supernatant-Out operation. After a certain volume
of hydraulic fluid is pumped, the Excess Pressure alarm is deactivated. The
following conditions may cause an Excess Pressure alarm to occur:
•
The fluid path exiting the cell processing bag is occluded.
•
The volume of fluid in the cell processing bag at the beginning of the
Supernatant-Out operation is too small (approximately 50 to 100 mL).
•
The maximum volume of fluid has been expressed from the cell processing bag
while the Excess Pressure alarm is still activated.
•
There is air in the hydraulic system. It is necessary to prime the hydraulic
system to remove the air. See “Priming” on page 6-36.
If there is an Excess Pressure alarm, the EXCESS PRESSURE light illuminates, the
audible alarm sounds (if it is turned on), and the STOP RESET light illuminates.
Pressing the STOP RESET button resets the COBE 2991 and turns off the
EXCESS PRESSURE light.
If the audible alarm is turned off, there is no indication of the excess pressure
condition other than the EXCESS PRESSURE and STOP RESET lights being
illuminated.
