Terms
Access point
A relay point used to connect to the Internet. A PC
or other devices can be connected to the Internet
via an access point using a telephone line.
APN [Access Point Name]
The name of the access point for FOMA packet communication.
A
bps [bits per second]
Units of measure for the data transmission speed.
Refers to the number of bits (amounts of data)
transmitted per second.
B
Caller ID
A caller's telephone number.
cid [context identifier]
A number specified when you register an access
point name (APN). Set it when registering an APN
in the FOMA terminal.
C
Dial-up
Using a telephone line to connect to the network.
DTE [Data Terminal Equipment]
Devices such as a PC or PDA.
D
IMT-2000 [International Mobile
Telecommunications]
A third-generation mobile telephone format that is
standard throughout the world. “2000” has two meanings:
the format uses the 2 GHz frequency band, and to be
available on the market in around the year 2000.
Install
To transfer data from an external source such as a floppy
disk or CD-ROM into a PC so that the program can be used.
Internet service provider
A company which provides connection to the
Internet. Generally, you subscribe to the Internet
service provider to use the Internet.
ISDN
Integrated Services Digital Network

LAN [Local Area Network]
A computer network consisting of multiple
computers on the same floor or in the same building
that are connected to each other.

Modem
A device that makes it possible for a PC to
communicate using the telephone line.

OS [Operating System]
Software such as Windows
®
XP, Windows
®
2000
Professional which controls the overall functioning
of a computer.
O
Port
An interface connector that is used to connect a PC
to peripheral devices such as a printer.
Properties
A collective name for the attributes and settings for
Windows files and icons.
Protocol
A rule agreed between two computers on how
communication between them is to be carried out.

QoS [Quality of Service]
Quality of service is the technology for allowing
users to make use of line connections as they
intend while communicating. Communication speed
and other such connection settings can be
configured on the FOMA terminal.
Q
W-CDMA [Wideband Code Division Multiple
Access]
A mobile communication system adopted by NTT
DoCoMo that promotes global standardization in
accordance with IMT-2000. One of the multiple
access formats for radio communications.
