INSTALL THE HAT CHANNEL AND ROOF PANELS
SPECIAL NOTE:
Install the hat channel for the roof of each
greenhouse bay
before
you install any of the polycarbonate
roof panels.
Consult the following information before you begin to install
the polycarbonate panels for the roof.
• All roof panels are full 6' x 8' twin-wall polycarbonate
panels secured to hat channel attached to the rafters.
• The hat channel runs are perpendicular to the rafters
and are spaced at approximately 24".
• Hat channel runs are parallel to each other.
• Vent Tape: All upper panels are taped at the top; all
lower panels are taped at the top and bottom
before
installation.
• Install the UV-protected side up and toward the sun.
• Do not allow the polycarbonate panels to remain
exposed to the sun with the protective film intact.
Doing so will make the film difficult if not impossible to
remove. Remove film prior to panel installation.
• Panels are separated by aluminum H-Channel and
secured to the hat channel using FA4484 Tek screws
and neo-bonded washers (102921).
ATTENTION:
Each roof uses two (2) 6' x 8' panels between
a set of rafters (one side). This allows for an approximate
8" overhang at the lower end of the roof panel after
installation. Space the ends of adjacent lower panels a few
inches apart to allow water to drain into the gutter. Use the
gutter as a guide and set the lower panel in the desired
position.
The H-Channel installed between roof panels is shipped
in 8' lengths. Two (2) 8' sections of H-Channel are used
between the roof panels.
Complete these steps to install the hat channel:
1. Locate the center of both end rafters and mark the
location at the top of the rafters.
2. Stretch a chalk line from end-to-end and snap the line
to mark the location on each rafter.
3. Measure 20" along the top of the end rafter in each
direction and mark the location. This mark identifies the
bottom edge of the first run of hat channel.
Center of the End Rafter
4. Move to the other end rafter and mark the same
locations shown above.
5. Stretch a chalk line between the marks as before to
mark the location.
6. Take the first section of 105352 hat channel, position
near the top of the rafter, and secure it in place using
FA4484 Tek screws.
Solid lines mark the bottom
edge of the hat channel.

NOTE
: Verify that the lower edge of the hat channel
is on the chalk line created in Steps 3-5 above. To
avoid interfering with the installation of the end wall
polycarbonate panels,
DO NOT allow the hat channel
to extend beyond the center of the end rafter
.
