7. Select another section of hat channel, overlap the first
section by a few inches and secure the hat channel to
the top of the rafters.
HAT CHANNEL AND ROOF PANELS (continued)
8. Continue adding and attaching sections of hat channel
until the other end of the frame is reached and the run
of hat channel is complete.
NOTE:
Do not allow the hat channel to extend beyond
the center of the end rafter. The final section of hat
channel for all hat channel runs can be cut to length, or
it can overlap the previous section as needed.
9. Move to the other side of the frame and repeat the
steps needed to install the first run of hat channel for
that side.
10. With the first two runs of hat channel installed, measure
24" down from the installed hat channel on one side of
the roof and mark the location. This mark identifies the
lower edge of the next run of hat channel.
11. Move to the other end rafter on the same side of the
frame and measure and mark the same location on the
top of that end rafter.
12. Stretch and snap a chalk line to mark the lower edge
of the next run of hat channel and install this run as
previously described.
13. Continue this pattern of marking and installing the
separate runs of hat channel on both sides of the roof
until all hat channel runs are installed.
ATTENTION:
Install the last run of hat channel above
the rafter curve for each side of the roof.
If necessary,
move the hat channel up to decrease the 24" spacing
as needed to keep the run of hat channel on the
straight portion of the rafter.
14. After installing all lower runs of hat channel, continue
with the installation of the top, center runs of hat
channel.
