Slide Preparation

Slide Specifications

The VALENT works best with slides that do not contain a logo under the frost. If a slide with a logo is used, cover the logo with the slide
label. Below are slide specifications for the VALENT.

Material

Glass, ISO 8037/1

Dimensions

Length: 74.9-76.0 mm (2.95-2.99 in)
Width: 24.64-26.00 mm (0.97-1.02 in)
Thickness: 0.8-1.3 mm (0.03-0.05 in)

Label Area

Width: 24.64-26.0 mm (0.97-1.02 in)
Length: 16.9-21.0 mm (0.67-0.83 in)

Important Note: Pap pens are not required when running slides on the VALENT. Barrier slides should not be used on the VALENT, it will
obstruct the flow of antigen retrieval solution and dispensing of reagents onto the slide resulting in less than optimal staining results.

Slide Labels

All slides require a water-repellant/hydrophobic tab label for engineered continuous flow of Val DePar and antigen retrieval solution. If
manually mapping slides, use a VALENT slide label. Failing to use a slide label may yield poor staining quality. The lack of slide labels
may introduce issues such as slide cracking, as the slide may not load easily without the slide label, and frosted paint from slide melting
off and mixing with antigen retrieval solution.

When placing the slide label on the slide make sure the whole label is completely flattened and adhered to the slide, especially the
bottom of the label. If the slide label is not properly placed and sticks up even slightly, liquid flow will be impeded, and reagents will
wick and yield poor staining quality. Please see diagram below.

Tissue Placement on Slide

The tissue should be placed in the center of the slide and should not be at the edge or border of slides.  Avoid placing the tissue 1 mm
to the left or right edge of the slide. The tissue should be placed 3mm below the VALENT slide label and 3mm above the bottom edge
of the slide. Please see diagram below.
