Instrument Preparation
1. Turn the VALENT on using the main power switch (white switch) found in the electrical panel of the instrument, on the right side.
2. Turn on the computer and open the VALENT application.
3. Double check that both waste carboys are empty and properly connected to the VALENT.
4. Double check that bulk reagent carboys are filled appropriately and properly connected to the VALENT.
5. Priming the instrument should be done before every run. The user should prime until there are no remaining bubbles in the carboy
tubing or probe coil. When priming the dispense manifold, prime until the stream coming from the port is steady and even across
the 12 ports.
6. Priming should also be done when refilling the carboys, priming the manifold is not required for this.
7. Rinse the slide racks with DI water, and carefully brush away any residual deposits of dried buffer that may be present. This will
prevent contamination from previous runs.
8. Using both hands, one hand holding reagent rack from front and the other hand from the bottom, load the reagent rack with filled
reagent vials in the correct orientation; the reagent rack handle should be towards the front of instrument, facing the user. Reagent
vials must be positioned toward the front of the VALENT, facing the user.
9. To print slide or reagent labels, make sure the slide label printer, reagent label printer and report printer are attached to the computer.
10. When placing the slide label on the slide, the whole label should be completely flattened and adhered to the slide especially the
bottom of the slide label. A slide label that is not completely flat and sticks up even slightly will cause liquid flow to be interrupted.
When liquid flow is affected, reagents will wick and may yield poor staining quality.
11. All slides require a label. If manually mapping, use a VALENT slide label. Failing to use a slide label may yield poor staining quality.
12. Confirm that all slides are inserted all the way under the slide clips, placed securely in the slide clips, and centered. It is important
that slide labels are viewable by the barcode camera.
Important Note: Be sure to turn on the instrument before logging into the VALENT Software
Otherwise, the VALENT Software will automatically be opened in demo mode and the run will not start
