Repair Procedures
(RP): System Repair or Expansion
11
Run solenoid cables from each new smart con-
troller to each new fl uid solenoid valve at the dis-
pense points. attach wires to valves and ready lights.
12
At the console, turn ON the power switch and
allow the system to complete a self-test cycle.
This may result in an error message, which should
be ignored, because the new smart controllers are
not yet initialized.
13
Use the “PROCEDURE: FLUID IDENTIFICA-
TION”,
[Procedure SP2, Page 37]
, to “add” infor-
mation for the new fl uid, meter and reservoir.
14
Set up the console program to recognize all new
smart controllers by using the “PROCEDURES:
SC IDENTIFICATION”
[Procedure SP3, Page 39]
.
When prompted “START WITH SC#:?” and “END
WITH SC#:?”, respond with the
beginning
fl uid control-
ler number
being added
, and concluding with the
fi nal
fl uid controller number being added. Be sure to provide
magnetic identifi cation of the new smart controllers
when prompted by the procedure.
15
To purge air, dispense several 1-gallon jobs to
each new dispense point. Observe 1 gallon qty.
to confi rm correct operation of the new meter.
16
After installation of the new smart controller,
confi rm correct dispensing by authorizing a 1-qt
sample to EACH dispense point. Observe ready light,
then cancel each job.
17
Remove the alternate dispensing method for
temporary use prepared in step 8.
RP9
Verifi cation of Communications
/ Power Wiring
1
Failure to use authentic Balcrank Communica-
tions / Power Cable (model 3121-xxx) can result in
Spectrum system malfunction and error messages. If
a cable material substitution has been made, check to
be sure that all cables used conform to the wire and
cable specifi cations on page 66.
2
At each Smart Controller in the system, review the
color codes of each attached wire from the Com-
munications / Power Cables to assure that wires are
attached to the correct terminal position per “Wiring
Detail, Smart Controller”
[Figure 26, Page 20]
. Similarly,
review wire attachments at the console and compare to
Figure 25, “Wiring Detail, Spectrum Queuing Console”
[Figure 25, Page 19]
.
3
Imperfections in wire end terminations on the Com-
munications/Power Cables (model 3121-xxx) may
cause system errors. Wire ends should be stripped
to 1/4-inch bare wire length. Ends should be inserted
deeply in Smart Controller terminal plugs and secured
by the clamping screws. If any wire end condition is
uncertain, remove wire ends, then carefully re-strip
and re-install.
4
All terminal plugs on each Controller should be
checked to be sure they are fi rmly seated in their
socket and clean of oil or dust.
5
Tail-end resistors (one is mounted on each SC
when shipped) should be installed on the Air Smart
Controller and on the last Fluid Smart Controller in the
wiring chain. Refer to “Tail End Resistor Mounting”
[Figure 26, Page 20]
.
6
Always inspect all lengths of Communications/
Power Cables for cuts or damage during installa-
tion or when troubleshooting.
RP10
Verifi cation of Solenoid
Valve & Port Wiring
1
Failure to use authentic Balcrank Solenoid Cable
(model 3123-xxx) can result in Spectrum system
malfunction and error messages. If a cable material
substitution has been made, check to be sure that all
cables used conform to the wire and cable specifi ca-
tions on page 66.
2
At the Smart Controller associated with the error
message, review the color codes of each attached
wire on output ports 1 through 4 to assure that wires
are attached to the correct terminal position per “Wiring
Detail, Smart Controller”.
3
Be sure that the correct valve is wired to each fl uid
port, per your System Planning Sheet.
4
Imperfections in wire end terminations on the
Solenoid Cables (model 3123-xxx) may cause
system errors. Wire ends should be stripped to 1/4-
inch bare wire length. Ends should be inserted deeply
