DISK COMPATIBILITY
DISK COMPATIBILITY
MACINTOSH
The Akai DD/DR-Series of machines are able to read and write certain files to Macintosh HFS
format disks. When a Macintosh HFS format disk is accessed by pressing the DISK key, you will
see the following screen:
In the TYPE field where you can select the type of file you want to load. The current options are:
OMF
To load an OMF (Open Media Framework) file allowing playback of audio
created with systems such as Avid AudioVision® or MediaComposer®.
PT 3.2
To load a Session file created on a Digidesign “Protools 3.2” system.
PT 4
To load a Session file created on a Digidesign “Protools 4” system.
PT 24
To load a 24-bit Session file created on a Digidesign “Protools 24” system.
This option will only be available when the selected machine supports
24-bit audio (e.g DR16pro, DD8plus).
ALL FILES
To view all files on the selected disk. This may be used to select any
OMF files that are not recognised by the RE32. This may occur if an
OMF file was created on a non-Macintosh system.
NOTE: Due to the limited screen size, the RE32’s LCD does not show the individual folders on
the disk that would normally be shown on a Macintosh screen. Instead, the display shows a list
of all files of the selected type on the disk. In practice, most disks will only contain a few
‘project’ files and a large amount of audio, so it should be relatively easy to find the required
file.
Some files created by Macintosh applications may contain more tracks of audio than can be loaded
in to the selected Akai machine. In this case, you may select to use several machines to playback
the audio with certain tracks playing from each machine. Pressing the TRACKS key (F3/F4) will
take you to the IMPORT TRACK MAPPING page which can be used to select the tracks that will
be imported:
Soft keys F1,F2 and F3 can be used to quickly select tracks 1-8, 9-16 or 17-24. Alternatively, you
can select an alternative combination of tracks to import by moving the cursor to the required
playback track field and using the DATA +/- keys to select the audio track that will be imported from
the file. On 16 track machines (such as the DR16pro, DD1500 or DD16PB), the SCROLL VIEW
keys may be used to select sources for playback tracks 9-16.
