Chapter 1

Introduction

The Spheras Storage Director™ (SSD) is a browser-based, remote configuration and management tool supporting
external RAID controllers. The Spheras Storage Director console uses Java™ technology via an applet running in a
supported World Wide Web browser environment.

1.1

About this Manual

This installation and user guide covers the steps involved to install and use the Spheras Storage Director Server and
Client to configure, monitor, manage and maintain disk array controllers and the physical and logical drives that are
connected to these controllers and the associated enclosures.

1.2

Conventions

Throughout this installation and user guide, the following conventions are used to describe possible effects on
performance within the Spheras Storage Director console:

Notification that a proscribed action has the potential to adversely affect equipment operation, system
