Figure 9-1 Prestige Operating in IPX Environment
9.2. Prestige on LAN with Server
When the Prestige is being connected to a LAN with a NetWare server, you do not
need to configure the Prestige as a seed router and hence the network number parameter
in the ethernet setup menu for the Prestige. Rather, the Prestige learns the network
number of the network it is attached to through the regular RIP broadcasts sent by the
server and adds this route to its routing table.
9.3. Prestige on LAN without Server
If the Prestige is connected to a LAN without a NetWare server, then you need to
specify a unique external network number to apply to that frame on the LAN. This
Prestige must then be configured as a Seed Router and the network number can be
configured in the ethernet setup menu. The network number must be unique and not
used anywhere else on the entire internetwork.
9.4. IPX Spoofing
The Prestige comes with several pre-defined call filters designed to prevent certain IPX
packets from triggering a call to a remote node. These filters should inform your
Prestige which packets should be ignored as traffic.
When you are routing IPX packets, the default call filters are defined as follows:
•
Block periodical SAP and RIP response messages.
•
Block NetWare serialization packets.
