8.2.2.
Static Route Setup
On a directly connected internet, RIP usually handles the routing automatically. However,
RIP cannot propagate across isolated networks, as in the case before a connection is made
between the two subnetworks. Without a route, no packets can be forwarded to their
destinations. A static route is used to resolve this problem by providing the Prestige with
some static routing information. In the example below, stations on the N1 subnetwork can
access the remote stations on N3 using the static route. The route has a destination of N3
with the gateway address being that of the remote node.

Please note that in normal circumstances, the Prestige has adequate routing information
after you configure the Internet access and remote nodes; you do not need to configure
additional static routes. To create a static route for IP, use Menu 12, Static Route Setup as
shown below:
