EX1200A Series Preparation for Use
3)
All unused slots should be closed with blanking panels to ensure a proper air circulation. This
is critical to avoid overheating of the cards. For more information, see the
description in this section.
4)
The front panel of an EX1200A should not be exposed to strong air currents. Typical
problematic sources include building ventilation and instrument or cabinet fans.
5)
The unit should be located away from sources of high magnetic fields such as motors,
generators, and power transformers.
6)
When selecting the installation location, be certain that there is enough space around the
power plug and the outlet so that they are readily accessible. Do not insert the power cord into
an outlet where accessibility to the plug cord is poor.

The specified warm-up time for the EX1200A systems is 30 minutes. If, however, the unit is being
subjected to an ambient temperature change greater than 5 ºC, extra stabilization time is
recommended to achieve maximum performance.
NOTES
It is important to note that, if connected to a high energy source, damage to the EX1200A system
and the plug-ins installed can occur. To avoid damage due to high energy sources, the following
precautions should be made:
1) Limit the input current and/or power to the values listed in the plug-ins maximum
specifications.
2) Employ current/power limiting devices (such as fuses) to ensure that excessive current/power
is mitigated in the event a system fault occurs.

NSTALLATION
Before installing a plug-in module into an EX1200A system, make sure that the mainframe is
powered down. Insert the module into the base unit by orienting the module so that the metal
cover of the module can be inserted into the slot of the base unit. Position the cover so that it fits
into the module’s slot groove. Once the module is properly aligned, push the module back and
firmly insert it into the backplane connector. See Figure 2-1 for guidance. Be certain to retain any
removed blanking panels for future use.
