ONNECTIONS
This section describes the connectors that are available on the EX1200A mainframe. Tables are
provided to indicate the pin mapping used for these connectors and a brief description of the
connectors functionality is provided as well.
Ethernet Connector
EX1200As use a 10/100BaseTX RJ-45 connector to connect to PCs, LANs, and other networking
devices. The RJ-45 connector provides auto-MDIX functionality that automatically handles
crossover in point-to-point connections. The unit will also detect and correct pairs that are wired
backwards. Therefore, crossover cables can be used, but are not required.
Digital I/O
The EX1200A features an 8-channel digital I/O (DIO) port on the rear panel of the instrument.
This port can be used as an arm/trigger source, for presentation of output triggers from plug-in
modules or the integrated DMM, and as a general purpose output device. The digital I/O connector
is a standard DB-9 with the following pin assignment:

SSIGNMENT
As a general purpose output device, each DIO channel can be independently programmed with
regards to its output functionality and its static level to assume when enabled as an output. When
not enabled as an output, a channel becomes tri-stated, preventing conflict with other potential
voltage drivers. Reference the port’s electrical specifications in
Table 3-1 for voltage tolerance
limits and output drive capabilities. Regardless of output functionality, each channel provides
constant input functionality. That is, the input level on each channel can be accessed without a
specific enable function call. Moreover, the base functionality of the DIO channels is not affected
by triggering, scanning, or any other instrument process. Unless linked to a backplane trigger line,
as discussed below, its operation is completely autonomous.
