Pushing or Towing (Fig. 6)
In an emergency, the traction unit can be pushed or
towed for a very short distance. However, Toro does not
recommend this as a standard procedure.
IMPORTANT: Do not push to tow the traction unit
faster than 2 to 3 mph because the transmission
may be damaged. If traction unit must be moved a
long distance, transport it on a truck or trailer. When
ever traction unit is pushed or towed, the by-pass
valve must be open.
1. Raise and support seat to get access to by-pass
valve.
2. Rotate by-pass valve on transmission counterclock-
wise 1/2 to 1 turn. Opening the valve opens an internal
passage in the pump to by-pass transmission oil. Be-
cause fluid is by-passed, the machine can be pushed
slowly without damaging the transmission.
3. Close by-pass valve by rotating it clockwise until it is
securely seated. Do not exceed 5 to 8 ft-lb of torque
when tightening.
IMPORTANT: Do not start engine when valve is
open. Running the machine with the by-pass valve
open will cause the transmission to overheat.
