MODEL 5000 SERIES MANUAL
Version 1.23
6-23
6.6.1.2.1 Label
Enter the desired name for the calculation; this may be any combination of
alphanumeric characters up to seven characters long.
6.6.1.2.2 Relation
Use the space bar to toggle between „<‟, „>‟ and „=‟.
6.6.1.2.3 Limit
The value used to determine the Pass/Fail result. This is entered in the same
manner as value entries in a device test step. If the expression will resolve into a
logical result (e.g. S1 > 1.25) then the result will be reported as TRUE (1.000) if
expression evaluates to TRUE or FALSE (0.000) if expression evaluates to FALSE.
As an alt
ernative, if the expression will resolve into a logical result, use the „=‟ sign in
the Relation Field and then toggle the Limit Field between „True‟ and „False‟. For
example:
“EXAMP = True” is the same as “EXAMP > 0.000”
“EXAMP = False” is the same as “EXAMP < 1.000”
6.6.1.2.4 Units
Any alphabetic character, usually „V‟ (volts), „A‟ (amps) or „O‟ (ohms), may be used.
6.6.1.2.5 Expression
The actual calculation expression can be up to 80 characters long. Use the right-
mouse button to obtain a list of supported functions or a list of some commonly used
constants.
The value of the selected constant, if selected, is inserted into the expression at the
cursor location. Similarly, the text of the selected function, if selected, is inserted into
the expression at the cursor location with the required leading parenthesis. The list
of functions also shows the required number of arguments. Each function argument
is separated by „,‟. The “IF(x,y,z)” function is specifically implemented for parameter
substitution and resolves as the following example:
IF(s1<0.001,0.001,IF(s1>9.999,9.999,s1))
The first parameter is evaluated and if true uses the second parameter or if
false uses the third parameter.
Note in this example, that the third parameter is another “IF(x,y,z)” function.
In operation, if the result of STEP 1 is less than 0.001 then the value 0.001 is
used; otherwise if the result of STEP 1 is greater than 9.999 then the value
9.999 is used; otherwise the result of STEP 1 is used.
All brackets are supported (“()”, “[]” and “{}”) and when used must be
balanced. As an example:
{(2+3)*[s3 + 0.07]}+0.15 is a valid expression
{{2+3)*[s3 + 0.07]}+0.15
would be an error because of the unbalanced “{)”
pair.
Special characters used in the expression are:
„|‟
logical OR
„&‟
logical AND
„>‟
greater than
„<‟
less than
The expression is checked for syntactical errors and if an error is found, a message
box is displayed explaining the error and the cursor is placed at the most likely
position of the error.
