7.3.6 Interchanging Individual Boards
If there is another STI Test System of the same model available, individual boards
can be interchanged for the purpose of defining which board is the cause of the error
code. It is not recommended, however, that any interchanged board be used for
actual testing of devices. Any auto calibration (7.2.2) factors associated with the
interchanged board will be incorrect. The calibration error would not likely be enough
to effect self-test but could be substantial enough to give erroneous test readings. In
addition, the boards may not be identical, because of date of production.
7.3.7 Failure to Resolve Error
If replacing components still does not correct the error code, check all power supplies
as described in section 7.4 (Calibration). If after checking power supplies the error
remains, consult the factory for further troubleshooting procedures or instructions for
returning board(s) or tester for factory repair.
7.4 Manual Calibration Procedures
Models 5000E and 5300HX provide auto calibration (see Section 7.2.2). Auto
calibration eliminates the need for manual calibration in most cases.
Calibration consists of measuring and adjusting, if necessary: (1) DC power supply
voltages and (2) precision voltage levels on the PC boards. A four digit DVM of 0.1%
or better accuracy is required for the voltage measurements, calibrated and traceable
to standards.
Allow system to warm up for at least 15 minutes before calibrating.
7.4.1 Power Supply Voltages
Measure the voltages as listed in Table 7-3 and confirm their tolerances. No device
should be attached to DUT terminals. Use the tester chassis for the return side of the
DVM. If any of these voltages are out of tolerance and cannot be adjusted (where
adjustment is possible) into tolerance, contact the factory.
The first five voltages are on the backplane and are most easily measured using the
Extender Board.
The last six voltages are pre-regulated supplies that are accessed on the Hi and Lo
Source Boards top connector.
These voltages will fluctuate within the limits listed in Table 7-3.
DAMAGE MAY RESULT if cables to boards are NOT CONNECTED when main AC power is
applied. Tester POWER SWITCH should always be OFF
before attaching or disconnecting cables
and inserting or removing any board. When using the Extender Board, be certain to use extension
cables to make these connections and that they are connected properly (Pin 1 to Pin 1).
