Version 1.23

14.8 APP-008 Multiple Testers on One PC
The STI PCW Software can be used to operate multiple STI 5000 Series Testers with one PC. This
technique is not recommended if more than one of the testers is connected to a handler or prober
with full Datalog turned on; as the PC would slow down the handlers/probers as it attempted to keep
up with the large amount of data being transmitted by the testers.
Requirements:
Pentium 300Mhz or faster PC
Multiple USB ports (one required for each STI 5000 Series Tester to be connected)
USB-Serial Adaptors (one required for each STI 5000 Series Tester to be connected)
Setting Up (first time):
Connect the USB-Serial Adaptor to a USB port on the PC
Install the USB-Serial Adaptor driver (if required)
Connect the STI 5000 Series Tester to the USB-Serial Adaptor using a standard 9-Pin (M/F)
cable and Null Modem
Turn on the STI 5000 Series Tester
Open a new copy of the STI PCW software
Using the “System->Communications” menu item select the correct USB port for this setup
o
Note: “Com Port(x USB) Open” will be displayed in the lower left corner of the PCW
main window when a valid, unused port is selected
Confirm operation:
o
Place the STI Self Test Fixture on the STI 5000 Series Tester
o
Click the “Self-Test” button found on the lower left section of PCW Software main
window task bar
o
Confirm the STI 5000 Series Tester display indicates “SYSTEM TEST”
o
Click the “Start” button located to the left of the “self-Test” button on the STI PCW
Software
Mark the USB-Serial Adaptor with the USB port selected and the serial number of the STI
5000 Series Tester (this will make re-connection easier)
o
Note: Removing the USB-Serial Adaptor from the PC and then reconnecting it may
change the USB port for that adaptor.
Using the “System->STI Configuration->Save Configuration” menu item save the system
configuration (this will save the USB port information). Use a unique name to identify the
configuration (e.g.: USB8SN888).
Repeat above steps for each STI 5000 Series Tester to be connected to the PC.
Setting Up (reconnecting):
Select the USB-Serial Adaptor for the STI 5000 Series Tester to be reconnected (this should
be marked on the USB-Serial Adaptor) and connect to the tester
If the STI PCW Software is not running:
o
Open a new copy of the STI PCW Software
o
Using the “System->STI Configuration->Recall Configuration” load the correct
configuration file (as saved above)
Confirm operation as above
