Cable shields are terminated differently for various optional Decks. The Lo Current
Deck, for example, has shields grounded. Cables are always supplied with these
decks and are properly terminated. Use only factory-supplied cables for attachment
to decks and handlers.
Never terminate shields at the handler
. Shields are
always terminated at the test system and left disconnected at the handler end of
cable. Each type lead (ex. A, As) will be shielded together with two leads for the
drive and one for the sense. If a connector for the handler end was not ordered from
the factory, bare wire ends will be provided. Red & clear are the drive leads (one will
suffice if testing low currents only) and black is the sense lead.
2.2.1 Standard Interface Controls
The 5000 Series Tester requires a start test signal from the handler and supplies an
end-of-test and a fail result (or 1 of 16 bins if option selected). A diode polarity
reverse indication relay is also provided if the Auto-Polarity Mode is turned ON when
programming a diode. The end-of-test and result signals are supplied by the 5000
Series Tester in the form of mercury wetted relay contacts with the following ratings:
EOT, Bins, Polarity:
1A, 50V.
The start test closure provided by the handler must withstand:
Start-Test:
35mA, 12 VDC.
The 5000 Series Tester may be connected in one of two ways dependent on the
handler. If the handler start-test closure is mechanical, with no reference to ground,
use the connection that follows entitled Mechanical Start-Test. If the start test
closure is electronic, use the connection described in Electronic Start-Test. The
significant difference in the two is the source of the ground for the start test signal. It
is supplied by the 5000 Series Tester or the handler but never both, as explained in
the following sections. This is extremely important as:
Ground on the 5000 Series
Tester should not be tied to any other equipment ground
. (See Handler Board
schematic, at the back of the manual, and Figure 2-1 for additional information.)
