– HIGH CURRENT DECK
MODEL 5000 SERIES MANUAL
Version 1.23
9-3
Note: Due to the longer length of cable that the High Current Deck has added to the
Low Current Deck, low current measurements may be degraded slightly. Initially
check your device at the Low Current Deck, then at the High Current deck to
determine any difference. Use the integrate answer mode.
9.3 Operation
Use the High Current Deck just as though the device were plugged into the 5000
Series Tester terminals. The effect of the High Current Deck is to extend the on-state
test current range. The High Current Deck is a pass through except on tests where
currents are programmed above 50 amps. In all other respects, the High Current
Deck operates the same as the 5000 Series Tester.
9.3.1 Check-Out
To check the High Current Deck operation, attach a 4-lead, 0.01
Ω (supplied with the
High Current Deck) resistor to the High Current Deck anode and cathode terminals.
Program an on-state test (e.g.: V
T
) for 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 amps. Measure
the on-state voltage of 1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 and 5.00 volts. Readings should be
within 2% if the High Current Deck is operating properly. Repeat for higher currents if
the 1000 amp Option is installed.
9.3.2 Calibration Procedure
Place the High Current Deck PA Board (1,2,3,4 or 5) to be calibrated on the supplied
Extender Board. Attach all cables using the supplied Extender Cables and apply AC
power. Use a DVM, 4½ digit or greater for all measurements. Attach the DVM return
to the “S” line (pin J1-35 on the back plane, or “S” line attachment loop on the
Extender Board).
Adjust in the exact order shown in Table 9-1 below:

If using a test fixture (those provided by Scientific Test)
that already has an oscillation suppression network
built into the fixture then use a shorting bar across the
gate (base) drive jacks.
