Soak Time
8.2.1 Answer Mode
See Section 6 for information on where to set the answer mode in software. If your
system was purchased with a Low Current Deck, the software was pre-configured to
use the Line Integrate mode (this is the recommended mode for tests below 100
ηA).
8.2.1.1 Answer Average
This measurement mode is the fastest and is recommended where AC noise does
not significantly effect the measurement. The parameter result is sampled several
times over a 100
μSec period and averaged.
8.2.1.2 Answer Line Integrate
This measurement mode integrates the parameter result over a full AC line cycle
period to negate the effect of power line noise in the environment. It is the most
stable measurement mode but is also the slowest. It adds at least one cycle period
to the test time (16.7mSec for 60 Hz). It is the recommended mode for test below
100
ηA.
8.2.1.3 Answer Zero-Cross
This measurement mode takes the result at the first power line zero-cross following
the soak time. It is a compromise between average and integrate modes when AC
noise is present. Test time is longer than in the average mode but shorter than in the
integrate mode.
Note: The zero-crossing detector is included on the Control Board (in the 5000
Series Tester). If the detector malfunctions, the tester will appear to have “locked-up”
as it waits for the zero-cross signal. Power the 5000 Series Tester off and correct
this malfunction before continuing testing.
8.2.2 Soak Time
Soak time can be added to leakage tests at currents below 1
μA. Normal soak time is
approximately 5mSec. Additional soak time may be selected by entering the desired
amount (0-
99mSec) in the “Soak Time” entry box of the test step edit window.
This feature is provided for devices that may require longer soak times to obtain a
stable answer. To determine the ideal soak time for a particular device,
experimentally add soak time until the added soak time has an insignificant effect on
the obtained answer.
8.3 Operation
Operation of the Low Current Deck is similar to the 5000 Series Tester. The device
is loaded into the test fixture on the deck manually, or the deck is attached, by a
device cable, to a handler. Handler operation is the same as with the 5000 Series
tester. See Section 2.2 of this manual for operation details with a handler.
8.3.1 External Loads
All loads are programmed in the same manner as the 5000 Series Tester except R
GK
.
