AIS SAR aircraft 
An AIS SAR aircraft shall be drawn with a thin solid outline with 
the same basic colour as used for target symbols. The symbol 
shall be oriented in the direction of the COG. The  length of the 
symbol shall be 6 mm. 

 

AIS SAR vessel 
If provided, a search and rescue vessel shall be presented by 
having a circle with cross drawn with a solid line inside the 
standard activated AIS vessel symbol (see 2.5a and 2.5b) 
Message 5 contain ship type, ship type 51 is SAR

Lost targets 

As soon an AIS or tracked target is lost, the regarding symbol is superimposed by a cross, 
changes to red colour and starts blinking.

The reporting rates for AIS targets varies according to AIS target status and Class. 
This must be taken into account for actual shown AIS data and when AIS targets are lost.
