Do not inhale solvents.
As a result of their chemical composition, some special inks and cleaners
may under certain circumstances emit solvent vapors. These may be
hazardous to your health in the long term or in high concentrations.
Please refer to the material safety data sheet of the respective liquid to
ascertain the extent to which there may be a health hazard.
The material safety data sheets also contains information on what kind of
personal protective equipment is required for the operating and
maintenance personnel. If in doubt, please consult your employers'
liability insurance association or your safety engineer.
The concentration of the solvent during regular print operation is highly
dependent on the environment of the printer and the application. Make sure
the room is sufficiently ventilated and, if in doubt, make use of an approved
air extraction system.
Whether or not an extraction system is necessary must be decided on a
case-by-case basis. The "maximum workplace concentration values" (MAK
values) can be used to make a sound decision in this regard. The
permissible MAK values can be found in the material safety data sheet and
have to be checked by making respective measurements at the printer
location.
Wear safety goggles
Safety goggles must be worn when working with ink or cleaning products.
Wear goggles with side protection (or a protective means of equal value)
as soon as you work with ink or cleaners.
If any liquid gets into the eyes, rinse the eye with an eye wash, or if not
available rinse with flowing water for 15 minutes and consult a physician
immediately.
Wear safety gloves
When working with consumables (ink and cleaner), wear safety gloves that
have been authorized as per material safety data sheet for which the gloves
have been authorized for the chemicals contained in the consumables.
Latex gloves are not leak-proof and are therefore not permitted as safety
gloves.
