SOLVING PROBLEMS BY YOURSELF
Problems that have nothing to do with the way the machine is working may arise; the table below
is designed to help you solve these problems by yourself without wasting time and money on
unnecessary service calls. If the solutions given do not prove successful or if your problem is not
included in the list, contact the customer engineering service.
PROBLEM
CHECK:
The display does not switch on
• the facsimile machine is switched on
• the power cable is connected correctly
You cannot insert the document
• the operator console is correctly closed
• the thickness of the document is within the specified limits
• the document is crumpled or folded
• the document is correctly inserted in the slot
• a document is jammed inside the machine
• the feed rollers are dirty
You cannot send a document
• the facsimile machine is on
• the document is correctly inserted
• the receiving machine is set for reception
• with a telephone connected to the telephone socket of the facsimile
machine, the dial tone can be heard
• when you press the HOOK/TALK key, the dial tone can be heard
You cannot receive a document
• the facsimile machine is on
• there is no paper left in the cassette and the memory is full
• a sheet of paper is jammed inside the machine and the memory is full
• with a telephone connected to the telephone socket of the facsimile
machine, the dial tone can be heard
• when you press the HOOK/TALK key, the dial tone can be heard
You cannot print a document received
in the memory
• there is no paper left in the cassette
• a sheet of paper is jammed inside the machine
You cannot make a telephone call
• the telephone is correctly connected to the telephone socket on the
facsimile machine
The document received is not
reduced automatically
• the set-up parameter REDUCTION has been enabled
(see the "Setting the Set-Up Parameters" section)
The document received is completely
blank
• the sender has inserted the document correctly in his machine
The document sent was completely
blank
• the document was inserted face down
The document received is very light
• the document sent is very light
The document received is very dark
• the document sent is very dark
The document received contains
vertical lines
• the optical reader glass on the sender's facsimile machine is dirty
The document copied contains
vertical lines
• the optical reader glass is dirty
The document received or copied
contains smudged characters and/or
figures or smudges all over the page
• the printing paper is of the correct type
• the printing nib is dirty
• the electrical contacts on the print head are dirty
• the print head is damaged
