Operation
A continuous operation could be likened to an assembly line process: fresh medium is
added as batch broth is harvested. The fermentation vessel contains, at all times, the
optimum amount of media with an established, thriving culture.

When growing anaerobic organisims, oxygen must be excluded from the media, and
when growing microaerophilic organisms, oxygen must be limited to a very low level
in the media.
