
8.7.2 EGR shutoff flaps – Coupling rod function and play check
Preconditions

Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑
No operating voltage is applied.
WARNING
Actuation mechanism in the exhaust and intake area closes automatically.
Risk of crushing hands!
• To carry out the teach-in routine, keep clear of the safety zone of the actuation mechanism in the
intake and exhaust area.
• Switch off the operating voltage of the engine governor before starting the mechanical test.
• Wear protective goggles.
WARNING
Hot components/surfaces.
Risk of burns!
• Allow the engine to cool down to below 50 °C before beginning work.
• Wear suitable protective equipment/thermal gloves.
• Avoid unprotected contact with hot surfaces.
Checking coupling rod, mechanical
Note:
For installation positions of EGR shutoff flaps, refer to overview drawing (→ Page 119).
1.
Remove guard plate of EGR shutoff flap (→ Page 121).
2.
Visually check exhaust flap and guard panel for damage.
3.
Check bearing of coupling rod (1).
Result:
Replace the coupling rod (1) if it is worn
(→ Page 121).
4.
Move coupling rod (1) at the specified
points (arrows) to check operability, ease of
movement and make sure that there is no ex-
cessive play.
Result:
Replace coupling rod (1) if it is jamming, slug-
gish or features excessive play (→ Page 121).
5.
Install guard panels on EGR shutoff flaps
(→ Page 121).
6.
Use DiaSys® to carry out a calibration learn-
ing run (→ Dialog system DiaSys®
E531920/..).
