WARNING
Hot components/surfaces.

• Allow the engine to cool down to below 50 °C before beginning work.
• Wear suitable protective equipment/thermal gloves.
• Avoid unprotected contact with hot surfaces.
WARNING
Components have sharp edges.
Risk of injury!
• Wear protective gloves.
WARNING
Compressed air gun ejects a jet of pressurized air.
Risk of injury to eyes and damage to hearing, risk of rupturing internal organs!
• Never direct air jet at people.
• Always wear safety goggles/face mask and ear defenders.
Checking EGR cooler
1.
Remove all covers.
2.
Remove coolant pipe after EGR cooler (3). To
do this, unscrew screws at EGR cooler (1)
and charge-air manifold (2).
3.
Visually inspect cooler grill of EGR cooler for
heavy sooting and coolant deposits indicating
a leak.
4.
Check EGR cooler for damage and coolant
leakage.
5.
Check threads for ease of movement.
6.
Replace EGR cooler in case of heavy sooting,
coolant leakage or damage (→ Page 130).
7.
Check all sealing, mating and support surfa-
ces for unevenness and damage. Smooth any
unevenness with oilstone or crocus cloth. Re-
place damaged parts.
Note:
Coat Torx screws of EGR piping after EGR
cooler with engine oil.
8.
Reinstall piping after EGR cooler (3) with new
gaskets (4).
