ELEVATE/REACH FUNCTION
RANGE OF TRAVEL:
When operating the elevate/reach function, the seating system will lift (elevate) upward for approximately 7”
(18 cm), then continue travelling forward up to a maximum of 5.5” (13 cm) to the ‘Reach’ position.
The legrest hanger on the CM legrest is synchronized (via electronics programming) to adjust automatically
in conjunction with the Elevate/Reach function
1
.
When lowering down from an Elevated or Reach position, the seating system will travel (and self adjust)
over the identical range of motion, but in the opposite sequence
.
1
NOTE:
when the seat reaches 4.5” (11cm) of elevation, and prior to transitioning forward to the Reach
position, the CM Legrest hanger will automatically rotate (tuck) inward (approx. -10
Œ
) to provide additional
leg clearance.
(Note: When a power center mount legrest is installed, the legrest must be in its’ fully retracted
position in order to maximize leg clearance at the Reach Position).
ELEVATE/REACH - LOCKOUTS & LIMITS:
The elevate/reach function on the Rovi Upfront MPPS has a mechanical limit switch that signals the wheelchair
into
Reduced Drive Speed (RDS)
as soon as the seating system is elevated beyond its home position. (The
RDS Limit reduces the drive speed of the wheelchair to approximately 25-30% of its maximum speed when
the Elevate/Reach function is activated).
(
Note
: To return to normal drive speed, the seating system must be
lowered back down to the home position).
The Tilt function must be in the home position before the Elevate/Reach function is initiated.
(
Note
: If the seating
system is already tilted when the elevate/reach function is activated, the seat will automatically return to the ‘tilt
home’ position prior to elevating.
The Tilt function will remain locked out at all times throughout the elevate and/or reach function.
When the Rovi Upfront MPPS is in the full Reach position, the maximum recline angle is limited to the Drive
Lockout (DLO) setting (up to 30°) due to limitations in the amount of space available behind the seating system.
An electronically programmed synchronized leg limit control automatically rotates (tucks) the legrest hanger on
the LNX Power CM and/or the Fixed CM Legrest during the Elevate/ Reach function
(refer to
1
NOTE
above)
.
The Rovi Upfront MPPS uses an
Anti-Tipper Lockout
mechanism to lockout the front (left & right) casters
on the wheelchair base, and stabilize the wheelchair as the seating system transitions from Elevate into the
Reach position (refer to
section 3.3.6
(
Fig 1A
)). The position of anti-tipper lockout mechanism is monitored via
two separate limit switches (one per front caster). If one, or both of the Anti-Tipper Lockouts fail to engage
properly during the Elevate/Reach function, the Elevate/Reach function will go into ‘lockout’, and will not be
permitted to continue
*
.
(
*Note
: The elevate/reach function can be returned to the home position if it becomes locked out)
The
Elevate
Elevate function allows users to raise their power positioning system up to a maximum of 7” (18cm)
above the lowest seat-to-floor height of their system. The
Reach
Reach function operates in conjunction with the
elevate function, and allows the power positioning system to extend forward up to 5.5” (13cm) from the maximum
elevated position.

WARNING! Risk of compromised wheelchair stability and serious personal injury.
• ALWAYS ensure the wheelchair is on a smooth level surface when driving or operating the system in
an elevated and/or reach position (even at reduced speed).
• NEVER drive up or down an incline while in an elevated, reach, tilted or reclined position
• NEVER lean forward or sideways to grab items/objects, or shift body position (in any direction) while in
the elevated or reach position.
• NEVER transfer in or out of your wheelchair while in the elevated or reach position.
DANGER! Not wearing your postural belt could result in death or serious injury.
• ALWAYS wear your postural belt. Your postural belt helps reduce the possibility of a fall from the wheelchair.
