What Happened Why What To Do
Specified pressure not
reached or maintained.

There are gas leaks in
the cell chamber or
expansion chamber. Check the pycnometer for leaks (refer to
Checking the Cell and Expansion
Chambers for Leaks
, page 5-7 ).
The Helium tank is
empty. Replace the tank. Minimum
recommended pressure is 200 psig.
The cylinder Shut-Off
valve is closed. Open the Shut-Off valve.
The pressure regulator is
defective, or the pressure
is set too low. Ensure that the regulator is set properly.
Call a Micromeritics Service Represen-
tative, if necessary.
The zero offset (of
pressure transducer) is
too low. Check offset by opening the chamber
cap. If the offset is negative, run a new
zero offset (refer to
Zero , page 3-37 ).
Dust filter on 2000 cm

unit is clogged or
leaking to atmosphere.
Clean the dust filter. Refer to Cleaning
the Dust Filter (2000-cm3 units only) ,
page 5-9 .
Helium drained from
tank. Leaks in the gas line
connection. Pressurize the system. Close, then open
the Cylinder Shut-Off Valve. If the
needle on the pressure gauge on the gas
cylinder jumps abruptly, a leak in the
gas line connections may be indicated.
Check gas line connections.
The pycnometer was left
in manual mode with all
valves open, or the fill
valve is open and the
chamber cap is off. Close all valves, then attach a new tank
of helium.
