Unwinder/Winder Controls & Function
Unwinder
Mode Switch
The Unwinder has a Mode Switch for “Auto” or “Manual” operation. .
Auto
– Use this setting when the Unwinder is interfaced to the Mach X.
Unwinder is controlled (disabled/enabled) by the Printer thru the interface
cable. This control allows easy roll loading since the Unwinder will not start
turning when the Label Tension Arm is lifted to load labels/media.
Manual
– This mode is useful if using the Unwinder as a stand-alone device
(not interfaced to the Mach X).
Speed Control
For proper media feeding and printing, you need to adjust the speed on the
Unwinder depending on the size of roll and print quality/speed you are running.
To speed up the Unwinder, turn the Speed Control Knob clockwise.
To slow the speed, turn the Speed Control Knob counterclockwise.
The Unwinder speed should be set so it matches the printers transport speed.
Set the speed so the roll is moving smoothly (not hesitating as it turns).
As the label/media roll size changes (gets smaller); you may need to re-adjust the speed.
Tip:
When the Unwinder speed is set properly; you should notice that the Label Tension Arm position
stays fairly consistent (doesn’t move up/down a great distance).
NOTE
: If the speed is set too slow or too fast this can affect how the media is transported through the
printer; effecting print positioning (image registration) and printing (causing distortion).
Description of Function
•
Unwinder turns the hub clockwise (unwinding media) if the Label Tension Arm is lifted above the
midpoint of its arc.
The higher the Arm is lifted the faster the hub turns clockwise.
•
Unwinder turns the hub counter-clockwise (rewinding media) if the Label Tension Arm drops
below the midpoint of its arc.
The lower the Arm drops the faster the hub turns counter-clockwise.
•
Unwinder will STOP if:
The Label Tension Arm is positioned near the midpoint of its arc.
The Label Tension Arm drops so it makes continuous contact with the bottom limit and there is no
media separating the metal arm from the metal stop.
The Label Tension Arm makes continuous contact with the top limit of its arc.
NOTE
: During a print job; if either of these last two conditions occur, even momentarily, the
Mach X will also STOP and the Toolbox will display “PAPERPATH_END_OF_ROLL”.
To resume printing:
o
Manually release end of media web from core; if it did not release automatically.
Tip
: If trailing edge of media web has tape attached or is damaged/deformed; it is a good
idea to trim off tape/damaged/deformed media, with scissors. This will reduce chance of
a media jam or printhead damage.
o
Press LOAD/FEED button to forward remaining media out of the printer.
o
Remove empty core from Unwinder.
o
Follow procedures for "Loading Labels/Media" into printer.
o
Once media has been loaded into printer; press RESUME button to Resume Printing. or
press CANCEL button to cancel current job and start a new job.
