Connecting
the
Instrument to
a Terminal
To connect the instrument to a computer:
1. Remove power from the instrument.
2. Connect one end of a standard CAT5 cable to either the RS485 IN
or OUT receptacle on the instrument. Pins 4 and 5 should connect
to ChB and ChA, respectively, of an RS485 to RS232 converter.
Do NOT use a CAT5 cross-over cable or damage to instrument will
result.
WARNING:
Do not connect RS232 signals directly to RS485 pins
on the instrument. Failure to heed this warning will result in dam-
age to the instrument, voiding its warranty.
3. Connect the RS232 side of the converter to a COM (Serial) Port on
a computer.
4. Start Hyper terminal on the computer.
Note:
Some converters
require handshaking to
control direction of data
flow. For those converters,
set Flow Control to
Hardware.
5. Configure the COM Port settings for any available COM Port. Set
the Flow Control to None for most converters.
6. Configure ASCII setup as shown in Figure 6-1.
Figure 6-1 COM Port and ASCII Properties
7. Apply power to the instrument.
