Oil Filter

Replace the oil
fi
lter as follows:
1. Before removing the oil
fi
lter, clean the area
around the oil
fi
lter and housing to keep dirt and
debris out of the engine. Remove the old
fi
lter. On
crankcase mounted oil
fi
lter housings, a spring
loaded inner cup allows automatic oil drainback
into the crankcase as the oil
fi
lter is removed.
Wipe o
ff
the surface where the oil
fi
lter mounts.
2. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase.
3. Allow ample time for the oil to drain from the
crankcase.
4. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to
21.4 N·m

5. Apply a thin
fi
lm of clean oil to the rubber gasket
on the new
fi
lter. Partial pre
fi
lling of the oil
fi
lter
is recommended.
6. Install the new oil
fi
lter to the
fi
lter adapter or oil
cooler. Refer to instructions on the oil
fi
lter for
proper installation.

3. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to
21.4 N·m

4. Fill the crankcase, with new oil of the proper
type, to the
F
mark on the dipstick. Refer to
Oil
Type
on page 6.1. Always check the level with the
dipstick before adding more oil.

5. Reinstall the oil
fi
ll cap and tighten securely.
Reinstall dipstick.
Changing Oil Filter
Replace the oil
fi
lter
seasonally (150 hours)
, or at least
every other oil change (
every 300 hours
of operation).
Always use a genuine Kohler oil
fi
lter. The oil
fi
lter
on most engines is located on top of the crankcase
between the cylinders. Some models use a remote
mounted oil
fi
lter. See Figures 6-7 and 6-8.
