OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
SHUT-DOWN
After you have parked in a safe place, check your vehicle to make sure
it will be ready for the next trip. To make sure your vehicle is ready to go
after a long stop (such as overnight), follow the suggestions below. Your
vehicle will be easier to get going when you are ready, and it will be safer
for everyone who might be around it.
BEFORE STOPPING THE ENGINE
Do not shut off the engine immediately. A hot engine stores a great amount
of heat and it does not cool down immediately after you shut if off. Always
cool the engine down before shutting it off. You will greatly increase its
service life.
Idle the engine at 1,000rpm for five minutes. Then low idle for thirty seconds
before shutdown. This will allow circulating coolant and lubricating oil to
carry away heat from the cylinder head, valves, pistons, cylinder liners,
turbocharger and bearings. This way you can prevent engine damage that
may result from uneven cooling.
ENGINE IDLE TIMER
If an engine idle timer is fitted to the vehicle, please follow this procedure
to activate the system:
1. Vehicle must be stationary and park brake applied.
2. Turn ignition key to the OFF position.
3. A GREEN warning lamp will be illuminated in the main instrument
cluster to indicate that the Engine Idle Timer has been activated.
4.
The idle timer will automatically turn off the vehicle after 3 minutes.
An override switch located on the dash is available if the vehicle needs to
be turned off before the timer reaches 3 minutes.
Final Stopping Procedures
1. Set the parking brake before leaving the driver’s seat.
To hold your vehicle while it is parked, DO NOT rely on the following:
• air brakes
• hand control valve for trailer brakes
• engine compression
