Connections
t^okfkd
Connection information for switching modules is intended for quali-
fied service personnel. Do not attempt to connect DUT or external cir-
cuitry to a switching module unless qualified to do so.
t^okfkd
To prevent electric shock that could result in serious injury or death,
adhere to the following safety precaution:
√
Before making or breaking connections to the switching module,
make sure the Model 2790 is turned off and power is removed from
all external circuitry.
t^okfkd
Use at least 20AWG wire to connect DUT and external circuitry to the
switching modules. Wire and test lead insulation must be rated for at
least 1000V.
t^okfkd
NEVER connect an external source to the Model 7751, 7752, or 7753
module. Not only can an external source cause damage to the module,
but there is the possibility of igniting an inflator under test if the wrong
channel(s) is closed.
t^okfkd
An external source can be used with a 7702 module. However, when
testing airbags or other devices that present a danger from unlimited
energy sources, NEVER connect an external source to the Model 2790
front panel inputs, or a 7702 module.
t^okfkd
Dangerous arcs of an explosive nature in a high energy circuit can cause
severe personal injury or death. If the multimeter is connected to a high
energy circuit when set to a current range, low resistance range, or any
other low impedance range, the circuit is virtually shorted. Dangerous
arcing can result even when the multimeter is set to a voltage range if
the minimum voltage spacing is reduced in the external connections.
For details to safely make high energy measurements, see
,
High energy circuit safety precautions
As described in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
Standard IEC 664, the Model 2790 is Installation Category I and must
not be connected to mains.
`^rqflk
If using an external source with the 7702 model or with the front panel
inputs of the Model 2790, make sure that incorrect channel closures do
not connect the external source to the 7751/7752/7753 module via the
backplane of the Model 2790. Current >100mA from an external
source could damage the 7751/7752/7753 module.
Detailed connection and wiring information for the Models 7751, 7752, 7753, and 7702
are provided in the Model 2790 User’s Manual.
