12 Fault-finding

12.1 Fault-finding procedure
12.1.1 General tips for fault-finding
In all cases, a PC with the appropriate software and
a multimeter are required for fault- nding related to
controls.
Check the software version before servicing.
Has the software present in the unit been
imported onto the PC?
Is it necessary to import new versions of the
software?
After the fault has been remedied, a test must
be carried out to determine that the unit func-
tions correctly. The test is noted in the inspec-
tion book.
An expert inspection must be carried out. The
outcome of this inspection must also be noted
in the inspection book.

12.1.1.1 Tips for fault-finding when faced with a
faulty unit
Do not reset or switch off the unit at the be-
ginning of the fault- nding process
Analyse the malfunction
If possible, rst note the LEDs for the inputs and
outputs. This is because, after the unit is reset or
switched, the cause of the fault is often no longer
present, or can no longer be traced.

In principle, two types of fault- nding are pos-
sible:

Risk of injury from incorrect actions
Incorrect actions can lead to injuries, caused
by electric shock or mechanical injury, or to
material damage.
Elimination of faults only be trained spe-
cialist personnel.
