There are several different ways to synchronise playback in the Sonos software and using KNX. These differ-
ent ways can also be combined with one another.
Master-slave groups (MSG)
•
A master-s lave group is a logic grouping of up to s ix Sonos devices in the KNX Sonos Gateway. A
mas ter-s lave group compris es a s ingle mas ter and up to five s laves .
•
The dis tinction between Sonos devices in their function as a master or s lave is a KNX Sonos Gate-
way concept. You will find additional information at
•
A master-s lave group allows Sonos groups to be formed or dis s olved us ing the KNX Sonos Gate-
way's communication objects, s o that Sonos devices can be controlled together or s eparately, de-
pending on the s pecific us e cas e.
•
You can define which Sonos devices belong to particular mas ter-s lave groups beforehand in the pa-
rameter settings in the ETS (see als o
Configuring parameters , p. 69). The Sonos devices are not
truly grouped until explicitly required for the us e cas e (during the running time). This is als o why we
refer to "dynamic group creation".

You can find a more detailed des cription of this proces s at

behaviour in the role of a s lave in mas ter functions , p. 27.
Sonos groups (designated as "groups" by Sonos)

You can form a Sonos group in the Sonos software or us ing the KNX Sonos Gateway with the help of
mas ter-s lave groups .
